Greenpeace Copywriting: Greenpeace are Taking the World by Storm

Worldwide, scores of children, teenagers and adults line the streets, home-made placards and banners raised to a hopeful sky, their rallying cries muffling the humdrum clamour of diesel cars and planes. “Stop denying the earth is dying”, “there’s no planet B”’, “the oceans are rising and so are we” they holler. Their determination was unparalleled, with 4 million climate strikers taking their love for the planet to the streets on one day alone. You may have joined them.

From behind the scenes, Greenpeace was a monumental part of this movement, working in collaboration with the mobilised youth movement. They coordinated hundreds of strikes across the UK, spread the word amongst their followers and made inspiring videos for the UK Student Climate Network that reached millions. In a remarkable stand of collective strength, the eco-driven community widened and worked together like never before in history. Greenpeace and UKSCN were joined by Friends of the Earth, XR, NGOs, trade unions and of course, David Attenborough, to stand up for the planet.

Whilst students were uniting, Greenpeace volunteers were taking to the seas as well as the streets, aboard its ship The Ezperanza. Beating against the elements and injustice, they voyaged from pole to pole in one of Greenpeace’s largest ever expeditions. From the northern lights of Svalbard to the inky depths of the Lost City and the loggerhead turtles of the wide Sargasso Sea, the fragile and endangered wonders of the planet were recorded by an impressive troop of world-leading climate scientists, marine biologists, divers and documenters. The natural beauty they captured knew no bounds; from polar bears faltering across creaking ice caps, walrus’ adrift seas of blueish ice, whistling whale song and penguins diving in perfect arcs.

As a result of the united sea-farers almost year-long effort, enough research and documentation was undertaken to produce the ground-breaking report, “30x30: a Blueprint for Ocean Protection”, created in partnership with the University of Oxford and the University of York. This report strengthened the audible cries for a vital Global Ocean Treaty, backed by the UK government thanks to Greenpeace’s lobbying efforts. It is an agreement that will create a network of ocean sanctuaries to shelter the rich biodiversity of the oceans and relieve climate change.

The research and campaigning efforts of Greenpeace didn’t end there - a plastic pollution crusade was also underway. Scientists studied plastic pollution across the UK, shockingly finding massive quantities of microplastics in every single river tested. This research got airtime and direct results, with 200 MPs supporting campaigners’ demands for stronger measures in the latest Environmental Bill. Meanwhile in supermarkets, two million Greenpeace supporters came together to demand that UK supermarkets ditch destructive plastics and invest in planet-friendly packaging solutions. Every voice mattered, and those voices were heard, as Sainsbury’s pledged to halve its plastic footprint by 2025.

The remarkable united efforts of the Greenpeace community is changing the planet step by step. Driven by thorough methods and organised peaceful action, Greenpeace is a beacon of hope for vulnerable planet earth. Now Greenpeace needs your help to continue its amazing progress.
